For a few days in February, the wooden beams of the Church Barn will be
transformed into the deck of a pirate galleon when The Guild Of Players
present a rollicking version of Robert Louis Stevenson's
'Treasure Island'. Adapted from the original novel by Phil Wilmott, this swashbuckling stage
adaptation was premiered at London's South Bank Festival in 2005 and,
inspired by real-life 18th Century female adventurers, the show includes a
significant number of glamerous female pirates among the cast.
With 21
characters to cast, director Gill Magson suspected that she may not be able to
fill all the
roles but due, either to the King's shilling or the adventurous
nature of the good folk of Charing,
The Guild has recruited a wealth of new
talent, all eager to strut their stuff!
Treasure Island takes to the
stage of The Church Barn on
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and
Saturday, February 3rd to 6th at 7.30pm with a matinee on Saturday 6th at
2.30pm.
Tickets cost £7 with a £5 concession price. The Guild is delighted
that Wood You Like in School Road has offered to run the box office
for this production and tickets will be available from their shop from Monday
January 18th (see here for more details)
Further information can be found on
The Guild's website
The Guild will also be promoting the show, in approptriate pirate costumes,
at The Ladies Of The Lights Magical Evening.
