Charing is full of surprises! There are no longer any empty shops in the High Street and the latest addition is "The Chocolate Room" at
20 High Street, where you will find luxury chocolates handmade on the premises - only the very strong-willed will be able to walk on by!.
Boasting some enticing and unusual flavours as well as established favourites, these little beauties are only made from the finest ingredients.
In case chocolate is not your thing (is that possible?) try the exquisite imported Italian nougat, studded with crystallised tropical fruits, or the old fashioned sweets we remember as children. Sweet treats start from only £1.25 and a box of 20 assorted chocolates with your choice of ribbon trim is only £10.
The chocolate temptations go beyond the confectionery - why not sit down and choose something from the chocolate menu? Have a slice of chocolate cake with a cup of tea, or some homemade chocolate cheesecake with a cup of coffee. If you sample the "Choceeno" - an Italian shot style molten chocolate drink - beware, it's irresistible and you could easily become a regular!
Other businesses are offering more - from ready prepared curries at Richards Butchers, to beautiful flowers for special occasions or a little bunch to cheer someone up, The Floral Madam also stocks pretty china and lots of lovely things for children. Following watercolour painter Alan Colledge's successful day at "44" where he demonstrated different painting techniques, more similar events are planned during the year. Award-winning Wady & Bretts continues to amaze everyone with a good selection of beers and wines as well as fresh bread and, now that sunny days are ahead, some great ideas for picnics! The Gallery has some good ideas for gifts and the home and there's plenty more to see in the rest of the High Street and beyond.
"There's Always Something Going on in Charing" is a saying that is beginning to catch on!
